PRIMARY RESEARCH- V&A MUSEUM & LIBERTY

AS A PART OF MY RESEARCH I HAVE INDEPENDENTLY DECIDED TO GO AND VISIT THE V&A MUSEUM AND LIBERTY IN LONDON, TO GATHER PRIMARY RESEARCH. BY WITNESSING FIRST HAND REAL 1960s GARMENTS AND PRINTS, I CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT THE KINDS OF TECHNIQUES AND MATERIALS THAT WERE USED.

V&A MUSEUM:

The V&A Museum was amazing to visit, as it currently is holding an exhibition called 'You say you want a Revolution?'  The exhibition includes memorabilia, fashion, and information about historical events from the period 1966-1970. Whilst there I felt immersed in culture and began to understand the 60s more and what it meant to women in Britain.

FASHION PIECES:
The exhibition included a variety of famous pieces such as dresses worn by Twiggy and a studded jumpsuit worn onstage by Mick Jagger.

ROCK AND ROLL:
Part of the exhibition included a collection of records that defined the era. Festivals were popular in the late 60s to 70s and so the fashion reflected this. Clothes became a lot more loose fitting and comfortable, giving off a bohemian vibe with indian influences.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:
In the decade that man landed on the moon, there were also a lot of other scientific discoveries. The invention of the contraceptive pill for women was major. This break through meant that women could be in control of their bodies and planning their family.

HISTORY AND POLITICS:
This era had many historical events. The 60s was a time when England won the world cup, JFK got assassinated and the Vietnam war was ongoing. America and Russia were in a 'Space Race' and Christine Keeler got caught up in the 'Profumo Affair'

LIBERTY LONDON:

A quaint and very British shop, Liberty is home to some of the finest printed fabrics in Britain. Whilst there I had a look at some classic floral prints, but also had a look at the more unique prints they had to offer. Of course, as it was primary research i focused on looking at 60s style prints to see what colour palettes worked well together.

LIBERTY PRINTED FABRIC:
Whilst visiting Liberty I decided to explore their selection of printed fabrics, as this is what they are very famous for! I especially took note of 60s style designs and the colour palettes used.
