CHOOSING A MUSE

IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE STYLE OF MY TARGET MARKET, AND THE CUSTOMER I AM DESIGNING FOR, I HAVE DECIDED TO LOOK AT CHOOSING A MUSE. THIS/ THESE PERSONS MUST BE OF THE CORRECT AGE, AND HAVE PERSONAL STYLES WHICH REFLECT/ ARE ASPIRATIONS OF MY CLIENT.

INITIAL IDEAS BOARD:

In order to fully explore possible ideas for a muse, as a class we constructed an ideas board of people we thought could be suitable for the project. On the initial board we included photos of well known style icons from television, film, music and the fashion industry. The muse needed to be someone that the client could identify with on a certain level, however it also needed to be someone inspirational, as it's nice to aspire to achieve a celebrity style.

After reviewing initial ideas, I came to the conclusion that I could not narrow it down to one person, and so I chose two: Tilda Swinton and Kathy Bates.

TILDA SWINTON:

Tilda is an actress, model and fashion icon. Though she does not look like she would be a style crush for the target market- she is. The reason for this is because she fits the within the target age range and dresses in a sophisticated and stylish way. I have chosen her because she is more contemporary, and embodies the kind of woman I want the David Nieper brand to include.

KATHY BATES:

Kathy Bates is a more realistic and appropriate muse. She is an award winning actress, who also represents the petite, plus size market.  This makes her good to look at because she can give me inspiration for how to design for people of different body types.  My idea by picking both Tilda and Kathy is that if I can design an outfit which they would both look good in, I have designed something that suits the David Nieper client.
