CONSOLIDATION BOARDS

CONSOLIDATION BOARDS ARE A GREAT WAY TO COLLATE INSPIRATION IN A CONCISE AND CONSIDERED WAY. BY SHOWCASING A MONTAGE OF ONLY THE MOST INTERESTING SOURCES OF INSPIRATION ON A COUPLE OF LARGE CLEAN BOARDS, IT IS EASIER TO SEE POSSIBLE PATHWAYS FOR DESIGN.

CONSOLIDATING IDEAS:

CONSOLIDATION BOARD 1

This first board is a collection of images representing fashion details and fabric manipulation. The board includes inspirational photos of 1960s fashion,  Derbyshire architecture, and fabric/technique samples such as: gathering, entrapped threads in wadding and linear tucks. I've also included a pattern piece from a classic Japanese Kimono sleeve, as I find this type of pattern cutting to be quite contemporary.

CONSOLIDATION BOARD 2

This second board is to give me more of an idea for a silhouette. The architecture plays a big part in this as the geometric shapes of arches and windows inspire a boxy silhouette. The 1960s research that compliments this, is looking at buttoned coats and A-Line skirts. These kinds of shapes make for a more flattering and stylish look, something which I think would be flattering for my client.

DIRECTION FOR DESIGN:

By standing back and examining my consolidation boards, I have come to the conclusion that my initial ideas should involve these aspects:
  • BOXY SILHOUETTE
  • NEUTRAL COLOUR PALETTE
  • JAPANESE STYLE SLEEVES
  • INTERESTING SEAM LINES
  • SMALL FABRIC DETAIL/MANIPULATION
  • BUTTONS
